Oily sludge degrading potentials of single and consortium of autochthonous bacterial species

Oily sludge (OS) degrading potentials of single and consortium autochthonous bacterial population was carried out using standard analytical procedures. Three species; Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cibi subtilis were associated with the OS. The isolates exhibited varying OS utilizing biosurfactant producing potentials. P. aeruginosa best utilizer while B. producer (emulsification index 15.6%). Degradation culture (P. aeruginosa) (B. subtilis) revealed that a remarkable potential to reduce total petroleum concentration in from 100.73 ppm 41.39 (58.91% degradation) as compared 51.74 (48.7% achieved by culture. saturated fraction most susceptible degradation followed aromatic faction NSO asphaltene least degraded. able hydrocarbon content 87.4% 95.5% reduction recorded for consortium. Similarly, PAH reduced 27.94 16.74 12.75 these communities can be explored broader use remediating oily contaminated soil well managing waste oil gas industry.
